صحيفة الوطن السعودية تصدر عن مؤسسة عسير للصحافة والنشر، والتي قام خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك عبد الله بن عبدالعزيز (رحمه الله) بوضع حجر الاساس لها بمدينة أبها في الثامن من شهر مايو لعام 1998م . وافتتح صاحب السمو الملكي الامير سلطان بن عبد العزيز (رحمه الله) مبنى المؤسسة والمركز الطباعي في السابع من شهر يوليو عام 2000م. في حين دشن صاحب السمو الملكي الامير خالد الفيصل بن عبد العزيز العدد الاول نيابة عن وزير الداخلية رئيس المجلس الاعلى للإعلام آنذاك صاحب السمو الملكي الامير نايف بن عبدالعزيز(رحمه الله) في الثلاثين من شهر سبتمبر لعام 2000م. وتعد صحيفة الوطن أول صحيفة يومية محلية تقوم على دراسة علمية متكاملة، وأول صحيفة في المنطقة العربية وضعت لها دراسة علمية سابقة، ودراسة شاملة بواسطة 40 باحثا.
