Pelo aplicativo o usuário pode conhecer, por meio de vídeos demonstrativos, quais são os comportamentos de dor de cada espécie animal, realizar treinamento para se aprimorar na avaliação da dor e mensurar a dor em seu animal. Neste último caso, o aplicativo calcula automaticamente a pontuação de dor do animal avaliado e recomenda ou não a procura de um profissional qualificado. O aplicativo Vetpain originou-se do projeto de pesquisa denominado “Dor e Qualidade de Vida em Animais”, desenvolvido na Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia (FMVZ) da Unesp, campus de Botucatu (SP), liderado pelo Professor Titular Stelio Pacca Loureiro Luna, e seu grupo de pesquisa e colaboradores, com apoio de vários órgãos de pesquisa.
