Se ha redactado con una orientación práctica con el propósito que sea de especial utilidad para el personal de enfermería que desarrolla su actividad en las unidades de hospitalización. La información ha sido recopilada y revisada por farmacéuticos/as del Hospital Universitario Son Espases de Palma de Mallorca (España), que desde el año 1995 han publicado diversas ediciones impresas y en edición electrónica. La presente versión incluye como principales novedades información sobre la compatibilidad con nutrición parenteral y recomendaciones de protección del personal sanitario a tener en cuenta en la preparación y administración de medicamentos peligrosos.
