Forage är en app för att hitta vilda bär och svamp. Öppna appen så möts du av en karta, ungefär som vilken karttjänst som helst. Fast delar av terrängen är täckta av färgade rutor. Varje ruta är ett område där förhållandena passar en viss bär- eller svampart. Ju mörkare ruta, desto större chans att det faktiskt finns något där ute. HUR VET APPEN VAR MAN SKA LETA? Någon har helt enkelt fått sätta sig ner och räkna ut vad, till exempel, ett blåbär vill ha. Inte genom att fråga en AI "var växer bär", utan genom att förstå de faktiska biologiska villkoren: hur mycket ljus som når marken, vad jorden har för sig, hur tätt träden står, och så vidare. Som tur är gjorde vår biolog det senare, och tog fram en formel för varje art (en kantarell vill ju ha något helt annat än ett lingon).
